the 90s aesthetic of The X-Files is so comforting to me. VHS tapes, clunky phones, that modem sound we found so horrid then, adorable glasses that are too big for one’s face reflecting the curved surfaces and rectangular flashing cursors of boxy computer screens, Scully’s beautiful puffy coat. even dusty, shadowed rooms lit by flashlight beams, like campfire stories remembered in the dark, somehow seem nostalgic. in these moments, I can pretend I’m young again, wide-eyed enough to still believe the truth is out there, and I’m alive.
mulder saying i love you to scully:
- you always keep me guessing
- you were my friend, and you told me the truth. even when the world was falling apart
- marry me
- you’re my one. my one in five billion.
- you made me a whole person
- you’re my constant, my touchstone
- i owe you everything, scully, you owe me nothing
- i love you
scully saying i love you to mulder:
- shut up, mulder
- [yells at him]
- [calls him poopyhead]
- [rolls her eyes]
- i don’t believe this
- [irritated] i do it all for you, mulder
- mulder, when you find me dead, my desiccated corpse propped up staring lifelessly through the telescope at drunken frat boys peeing and vomiting into the gutter just know that my last thoughts were of you. and how i’d like to kill you.
- [mulder tells her he loves her] oh brother
- i’d kiss you if you weren’t so damn ugly
- [heavily implies that he is a pain in the ass to work with]
- mulder! [whines] [follows him anyway]
