Meersburg Castle on the Bodensee (Lake Constance) in Baden-Württemberg, Southwestern Germany, is the oldest inhabited castle in Germany. Its central tower was first built during the 7th century, though the original structure is no longer visible.

Das Rapunzelhaus in Amönau, Hessen, Central Germany. In Amönau the former castle of the Lords of Hohenfels, the so-called Castle Amönau is located. Originally built in the 15th century, the most important part of emerged in 1615 – the summer house on the sandstone wall. This timber-framed pavilion was built to enjoy a cup of tea in a stylish atmosphere, and thus is the oldest tea house in Germany. This alone would not justify that busloads of Japanese and other tourists come to photograph the summer house. This is because the artist Otto Ubbelohde used it as a template for his illustration of the Rapunzel tower, and thus any connoisseur of Grimm’s fairy tales has seen this picture before. "Rapunzel" is a German fairy tale in the collection assembled by the Brothers Grimm, and first published in 1812 as part of Children’s and Household Tales. Its best-known line “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, lass dein Haar herunter – let down your hair!” is an idiom of popular culture. The 2010 Disney US film “Tangled” is based on this story.
You can climb up the central tower, which has a spiral staircase made from the most delicate cast iron steps, which look as if they were made from lace – nothing for people with fear of heights.
