Highlander #007
The start didn’t inspire confidence but this turned into a good episode.
- It begins with Tessa wandering around the woods (doing a sketch) and getting kidnapped by three mountain men. Men who earlier killed two lawmen on their trail. After that, we watch as Duncan learns of Tessa’s abduction and gets on the trail of the small group.
- It’s a basic story, and one we’ve seen a lot in various shows and movies, but this version does a lot of things really well. And that makes it better than most.
- First, we have the always-good Marc Singer as a gravel-voiced bad guy. That’s always going to be fun. And his character is an immortal but, unlike others shown in the series, he seems almost unaware of the legacy that goes with being an immortal. In fact, the script skillfully keeps us guessing for a long time about whether he is or not.
- Next, there’s just the joy of watching Duncan go into tracker mode. As a TV hero, he’s not quite as unique or interesting as he will become in later seasons but this episode certainly helps him on the way there.
- The fight scene at the end is great. Maybe the best in the show so far.
